There are generally two ways people take Sunset/Sunrise photos these days. One way is the classical method which involves using a split or graduated neutral density filter. This works nice for getting it in one shot or little post processing. The other method is to take multiple exposures and blend them together in post processing. This helps to get a high dynamic range (HDR) image. People tend to fall into one camp or the other. Here, I’ve utilized both a graduated neutral density filter and HDR.
