Drink lots of fluids, more than you regularly would. Those were my instructions as I left the blood drive today. You see, they hooked me up to the ALYX machine which separates your red blood cells from your plasma and returns the plasma in a saline solution. They do it to draw double the amount of red blood cells (2 pints instead of 1). It felt weird when they started to reintroduce the first pint of plasma. I started to get real hot and my right ear starting ringing. I also had that “fainting feeling”. Needless to say, they stopped and took what blood I had given. I wasn’t feeling good the rest of the day though. I am feeling better now that I’ve eaten and downed about 5 liters of water.
