Wednesday I was assigned the West High School vs Farragut High School soccer g ame. Having not covered Farragut in soccer yet, I made the mistake of heading over to the High School to find the game.  I had expected it to be played at the football stadium… I was wrong.  I showed up and there was nothing going on at the football field.  I headed back to the car and went over to the middle school since there were lights on.  Turns out that is where the high school plays there games.

Farragut got on the scoreboard really quickly.  A penalty by West within the first minute lead to a penalty shot by Farragut.  West was able to score a goal, but in the end it was Farragut that came away with the 6-1 win.

Wednesday night I was sent to Farragut High School to cover the West High School vs Farragut High School softball game.  Farragut got off to a solid lead but West just couldn’t rally it together.  Farragut won 10 – 0.  The game ended in the fifth inning because of the mercy rule.  The full story will be in the Shopper on Monday.

Thursday afternoon I was assigned to cover the Catholic vs West softball game at 5:30.  When I arrived, I found out they started a little bit earlier because they were going to play a double header to make up for a previous game that was rained out earlier in the season.  West won the first game 9-3.

Monday after work I was looking for a game either close to UT or close to my house to test out a Canon 1D Mark II N that I had recently purchased from Patrick Murphy-Racey.  This camera has a lot of history to it.  I could tell because the copyright info in the camera still had Darren Hauck’s name embedded in it and two of the three batteries had Milwaukee Journal Sentinel stickers on them.  One with John Klein’s name on it and the other name I can’t remember (I had removed them after I had bought it.)  After looking at the schedules, I saw that Farragut was playing at West High School which is close to UT.  Both are schools that I normally cover for the paper.  The more I shoot a particular team, the more in-tune I get with their game-play, so this will also help the first time I have to cover West.

Farragut has won the state title three times out of the last four years.  This year is also looking good for them.  I only stayed a couple of innings, but they were in control of the game when I left.  The final score was 12-2. There were a few fielding errors by West that Farragut was able to capitalize on.
